Keith Urban seems to have confirmed he won’t be returning to ABC’s reboot of American Idol.
“I think it’s going to be all new people except for Ryan,” the country star tells Us Weekly.
Urban starred on FOX’s version of the singing competition for four years until it ended in 2016.
It was previously reported that Katy Perry has signed on to be a judge for the the reboot.
Fellow country star Luke Bryan could be one of the closest stars to signing on for another judging spot.
While Idol alums Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson were also reportedly in talks to join the show, they signed up to be coaches on The Voice instead.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Clarkson explains it wasn’t due to any hard feelings about her past experience with the show. Instead, it’s all about her family’s lifestyle.
Clarkson’s husband, Brandon Blackstock, also manages Blake Shelton, so she already understands the show’s schedule.
“I want it to be a great experience for my whole family, and that’s what I have to think about at this point in my life,” she explains.
“We’re used to The Voice schedule, we already have to work around it because of our family. We have four children — that can be very taxing with a schedule. It was just a no-brainer for me with The Voice because of that alone.”
