Blake Shelton is giving back to his home state.
Last weekend, he presented a 600-thousand-dollar check to representatives from the Jimmy Everest Cancer Center, the only full-service children’s cancer program in Oklahoma according to PEOPLE.
Shelton made the presentation on stage at his concert in Oklahoma City Saturday night.
His donation was prompted by a cancer scare in his family.
Shelton explained that his cousin’s young daughter was treated at the cancer center about a year ago.
He added, “They don’t turn any kids away. You come in there, you got a problem, they don’t turn anybody away, so I thought ‘That’s a place that needs some money.”
But Shelton’s generous donation to the children’s hospital wasn’t the only trick up his sleeve for his hometown crowd.
The singer, 40, also performed a surprise duet with girlfriend Gwen Stefani to their song, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart.”
