There’s a lot of talk today about the speech Donald Trump’s wife Melania gave at the Republican National convention. It initially received positive reaction last night. But then the questions started. Turns out it shares strong similarities, and at some points almost identical lines from a speech Michelle Obama made at the Democratic National Convention nearly eight years ago. Donald Trump’s campaign chairman says the candidate’s wife did not plagiarize the speech, there are just “common words and values”.
Taylor Swift could sue Kim Kardashian and Kanye West after Kim leaked a video of a secretly taped phone call between Swift and Kanye proving that Swift agreed to Kanye including her in his controversial song “Famous.” However, it’s illegal in California to record a phone call without both parties knowing. Taylor had no idea she was being recorded. When Taylor’s team first found out about the recording months ago, her lawyer fired off a letter to Kanye’s attorney, threatening legal action and notifying him the recording was a criminal violation, punishable as a felony unless they immediately destroy all such recordings. Clearly, that didn’t happen.

When Demi Lovato showed up as Brad Paisley’s duet partner on his single Without a Fight, many people were surprised. Turns out Demi is hoping to do some more country very soon. In a behind-the-scenes video of the making of the music video, Lovato reveals that singing country has been a dream of hers. “I’m a big country fan, I’m actually a fan of his,” Lovato says. “I grew up listening to country music. My mom was a country singer and being able to sing it finally has been kind of like a dream come true. Hopefully I’ll be doing some more of it.”

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is boldly going where few CEOs have gone before: Onto the big screen. The e-commerce titan and lifelong Trekkie has a cameo in the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, playing some kind of alien in a single tracking shot. “He was awesome,” director Justin Lin says. “It was like a president was visiting, you know? He had a big entourage.” Star Chris Pine says that entourage included “nine bodyguards and three limos, adding, “I had no idea who he was. Not a clue. But he was obviously very important.” Star Trek Beyond opens this week.
