“American Idol” Winner Trent Harmon Goes Country With “There’s a Girl”

Judging from his song choices on American Idol, you probably wouldn’t have predicted that season-15 winner Trent Harmon would pursue a career in country music.

But with his roots in Mississippi and the dedication of the country fans, it was an easy decision.

“Fans of country music support their artists, and they go to concerts, they buy albums, they go to festivals,” he points out to ABC News. “I’m country! I mean if you go home with me — like you know that I’m country!”

He went on to say “I’ve always said that I can be a country artist. If the right doors open up, I can do it.”

Well that door opened up quickly once Trent impressed Idol mentor and Big Machine Label president Scott Borchetta, and it was only a matter of time before he released a single like “There’s a Girl.”

“‘There’s a Girl’ is my favorite song I’ve written to date,” Harmon told Rolling Stone Country.

“I came in with this almost sad story about how I actually drove hundreds of miles only to find out I’d lost my chance with her. We crafted a positive outcome because it’s truly crazy what a man will do when he’s in love.”
