LISTEN: Dierks Bentley Teams Up With Elle King For ‘Different For Girls’

We haven’t stopped listening to Dierks Bentley’s new album, Black, which dropped last week, and the country singer has just announced that the second single off the album will be “Different for Girls,” a single featuring “Ex’s & Oh’s” singer, Elle King.

Bentley said he decided to collaborate with soul singer Elle King on his new album Black because of her Nashville roots.

“She can play a little banjo, and I love how her voice fit mine,” Bentley told Billboard.

“I think the voices blended so naturally. It wasn’t a forced collaboration, at all.”

Bentley admits that this song is one that he wouldn’t have been able to cut before becoming a father to daughters saying, “It talks about the idea how guys and girls process heartaches differently. But there’s also the judgment that one places upon a girl if she does go out and drink the heartache off–society does judge them for that.”

The country singer also noted the importance of having a strong female presence on the album.

Along with Elle King, Maren Morris is also on the album, which is named after Dierks’ wife (Black is her maiden name).

Maren Morris actually thought someone was pretending to be Dierks when she got the text asking her to join him on an “amazing” duet called “I’ll Be The Moon”. She didn’t recognize the number and was suspicious about the whole thing.

She said, quote, “There’s always a part of me that thinks someone is pranking me. I’ve had a lot of those moments in the last few months because so many incredible things have happened.” She eventually figured out it really was Dierks.
